Leadership

Leadership is a commonly used term in the 20th century. It is a word that is often abused by many and its meaning distorted by people. Everybody wants to become leaders it is because of the perks and other benefits leadership can offer to somebody with a position. What other people don’t see is the price people pay for being a leader. Leadership comes with a responsibility often forgotten by people that holds a rank and they forget that the position was given to them not for their personal satisfaction but for the company and the workers welfare.

First of all there are levels of leadership that a certain person belongs. The first level is leadership through position. It is an entry level leadership that is given to all supervisors, department head and managers. This kind of leadership has a principle of “do what you are told” or if simply put your subordinates follow you just because you are their superior. This is a level that is common among managers nowadays. Everybody that is task to lead a group begins with this kind of leadership. The second level of leadership is leadership through results. This kind of leadership is considered to be the “productivity” leadership. It is a situation when people follow you because of the positive results you have shown for the company that is beneficial for them. This kind of leadership instills influence of hard work and diligence towards subordinates and this is a much sought after situation for any supervisor or manager in a company. It will take some time for a leader to reach this level but being connected to your workers is the best way to get to this kind of leadership. To connect with your workers leaders must know what is the situation of his family or what is his problem that needs attention. It is a relationship that must be developed with mutual respect and boundaries for leaders to be effective that would be the best effort among his workers.

In the end leaders are also people and they commit mistakes. It is only how they act that identifies their level of leadership. Leadership is never a right but it is a duty that every leader must do not for himself but for the people that depends on him.
